# Grading and replies

Written answers that a manager marks.

In the course builder, turn on **Written answer, graded by a manager** for a question, and add what to look for. Only managers see that note.

## Grading

Handed-in answers appear under **Exams → To grade**. Mark each written answer, add a message if you like, and choose **Send grade**. The score combines automatic and written questions. If it reaches the pass mark, the person passes and gets their certificate.

## Replying

Choose **Reply without grading** to ask a question or give a pointer. The answer stays in your list.

## When there are a lot

Answers come one at a time, oldest first, and you can filter by course or find a person. Skip any you want to come back to. Multiple-choice questions mark themselves, so use written questions only where they're worth a person's time. With Crew, each line manager sees their own team's answers.

## Notifications

People see grades and replies in **My learning**, and the bot sends them a direct message.
