# Notifications

What Crew tells you about, how it reaches you on Discord, and how to keep everything in the app instead.

Crew doesn't send email. It tells you about things as **Discord direct messages** from the Crew bot,
and keeps anything it couldn't deliver in the app.

## What you're told about

**About you:**

- A **welcome** message when you're added to an organization.
- **Announcements** for your organization or department.
- **Decisions** on your requests, activity entries and job applications.
- **Leave cancelled** by a manager.
- Records added to your profile: **certifications**, **training**, **disciplinary records**, and
  **notes** shared with you.
- **Onboarding checklists** and **mandatory trainings** assigned to you.
- A **certification expiring** within 30 days.

**For managers, about your team:**

- **New requests** and **activity waiting for approval**.
- A member **completed a mandatory training**, or missed its due date.
- A member's **certification is expiring**.

**For Super Users:**

- **Approvals needed** under the two-person rule, and when they're granted.
- **Security setting changes** made by another Super User.
- The organization was **archived** because the bot left the server.

Role changes (promotions and demotions) are recorded in the service record but **don't** send a
notification.

## When a DM can't be delivered

Discord only delivers DMs if you allow messages from members of that server (**Privacy Settings** for
the server, or your default in Discord's settings). If a DM can't be sent, the notification appears
in Crew instead, under **Requests → Notifications**, with an unread marker. The **Requests** menu
item shows the count.

What arrives as a DM isn't repeated in the app.

## Keeping notifications in the app

Prefer not to get DMs from an organization? Under **Requests → Notifications**, turn off **Send me
these as Discord DMs from the Crew bot**. Everything then appears in the app only. The setting is per
organization.

## How long they're kept

Notifications in the app are removed after **7 days**. Mark them read, or clear them, any time.

### Troubleshooting

- **I never get DMs.** Check that you allow direct messages from that server's members in Discord,
and that DMs aren't turned off under **Requests → Notifications**.
- **My manager wasn't told about my request.** Your profile needs a **Manager**, and their profile
must be linked to their Discord account.
