Onboarding checklists make sure nothing is forgotten when someone joins: reading the rules, getting access to the right channels, a first chat with their manager. Crew gives each new member the checklists that apply to them, and both sides tick tasks off on the member's profile.

Creating a checklist

Super Users open Settings → Onboarding → Onboarding checklists and click New checklist:

  • Name: for example Welcome to Support.
  • For: everyone, or one department.
  • Tasks: up to 50. Each task is done either by the member or by their manager.

Editing a checklist changes it for people who get it from then on. Checklists people already have keep their tasks.

Who gets which checklist

  • New members get every checklist for everyone, plus their department's.
  • Members who move department get the new department's checklists (ones they already have aren't given twice).
  • By hand: a manager or Super User opens a profile and uses Assign a checklist. Useful for people who joined before the checklist existed.

Ticking tasks off

Checklists appear on the member's profile under Onboarding, with progress for each one.

  • The member ticks their own tasks.
  • Managers in their reporting line, and Super Users, can tick any task, including the manager tasks.

Each ticked task shows who ticked it. A checklist is complete when every task is done; unticking a task reopens it. New checklists are announced to the member by DM (see Notifications).

Tip: Keep tasks short and checkable: "Read #rules", "Meet your team lead", "Get access to the scheduling channel". Put longer explanations in an announcement or a training.

Custom profile fields

The same settings page holds Custom profile fields, the extra details you keep on every profile. See Members and profiles.
